Connected Health Research Advances During Pandemic

Image
The need for remote care amid COVID-19 has re-emphasized the importance and use of remote monitoring for patient care. The COVID-19 pandemic presented challenges and opportunities for health networks seeking to maintain care despite the stress on hospital resources and the need to maintain physical distance. The healthcare industry has seen a widespread shift towards telehealth, accompanied by growing investment in capacity that enables remote monitoring of patient symptoms. As a general phenomenon, medical networks across America have made significant strides in research into the use of wearable devices to improve health outcomes. At the GovernmentCIO Media & Research Military Health Summit Thursday, government and private sector officials discussed how their organizations have driven these advances in connected care. Much of this has depended on building existing networked care capacity, using the pandemic crisis as an opportunity to invest in the need for response measur

One of the challenges, however, was making the technology more accurate. Researchers at the University of Texas at Dallas have come closer to this goal by developing a nanopore sequencing platform that can, for the first time, detect the presence of nucleobases, the building blocks of DNA and RNA. The study was published online on February 11th and is on the back of the April print edition of Electrophoresis magazine. "By demonstrating the presence of nucleobases, our platform can help improve the sensi
