Benedictine University becomes first campus in state to offer Transact mobile student ID on smartphones, wearable devices
Students, lecturers and employees of the Benedictine University in Lisle can now convert their physical BCard of the Benedictine University (the official university card) into a mobile card.
With their smartphone or the mobile wallet on their portable device, students can conveniently and securely access campus buildings, purchase meals and much more.
With the introduction of a mobile ID on November 18, it will be the first university in the state of Illinois to make this technology available to its students, faculty and staff.
Transact Campus, the leading provider of innovative payment and access data solutions for a networked campus, offers the fintech technology that drives the near-field communication-enabled mobile IDs for the Benedictine University.
Mobile IDs allow students to take any action that previously required physical ID - both on and off campus - with just their smartphones and portable devices. Students simply place their device near a reader to enter dormitories and other campus buildings, access meal plans, and make purchases in campus restaurant retail stores.
The change from physical ID cards to contactless BCard on smart devices enables secure, convenient and highly secure transactions. Students can avoid touching the readers or giving their IDs to someone else. The university can also remotely issue the BCard without seeing the students in person or printing and mailing physical cards, which enables a safer, cheaper, and greener process.
To set up their BCard, students, faculty and staff need to download the Transact eAccounts app, authenticate with their university credentials, and then add their BCard to their mobile wallet.
"The introduction of this type of mobile technology into the Benedictine University community is a real turning point for our students, faculty and staff," said Charles Gregory, president of Benedictine University. "You can now interact with our services in a safer, more convenient and completely smooth manner."
The Benedictine BCard on smartphones and portable devices is protected by two-factor authentication to ensure that only the student can access their own account. This verifies that users are who they say they are, to ensure the highest level of protection for all user interactions with this service.
"The new mobile credentials technology is a highly visible example of showing prospective students that Benedictine is committed to using the most innovative technology to meet and fulfill their needs," said Chad Treisch, Benedictine's chief operations officer University.
The Benedictine University is an inclusive academic community dedicated to teaching and learning, science and service, truth and justice, inspired by the Catholic intellectual tradition, the social doctrine of the Church and the principles of wisdom in the rule of Saint Benedict. The university has nearly 3,000 students and more than 2,000 students.
"Congratulations to Benedictine University for leading Illinois and for being the first to implement this innovative solution that simplifies the experience for students, faculty and administrators alike," said Danny Johnson, Transact's regional vice president.
