Twitter mulls adding a Tip Jar to user profiles

Twitter could soon offer a user profile tip that can be used to get paid users who have significant followers for their great tweets.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Twitter has recently been experimenting with different ways it can enable its influencers to make money on the platform.
  • The upcoming Twitter feature could include a Tip Jar that users can use to tip other users for their tweets.
  • Twitter is also experimenting with Super Follows, which allow members to bill for exclusive content from a creator.

App researcher Jane Manchun Wong found that Twitter is exploring features like tips to give other Twitter users the option to pay for their tweets. "Twitter is working on Tip Jar directly in the user profile," she said in a tweet on Friday. The researcher shared pictures showing that Twitter could soon offer a tip for user profiles.

Twitter hasn't officially announced the addition of the Tip Jar, so this feature may not be released. However, if it gets published, users will likely need to have a certain number of followers to take advantage of the feature. Keep in mind that Twitter announced Super Follows back in February, which allows members to bill for exclusive content from a creator. The clubhouse started its direct payment function on April 5th.

Super Following also shows the icons and text in black, as opposed to the app's classic blue color when you take a screenshot. However, Super Follow itself has not yet been rolled out to the public. The introduction of the two functions could possibly also happen around the same time.

We first heard Twitter added a tip jar in March when Wong uploaded a screenshot of the tip options given. Wong said Twitter has allowed you to enter usernames for the following online payment platforms: Venmo, Bandcamp, PayPal, Cash App & Patreon.

Twitter is a popular place for people to type and express their thoughts. It is one of the most used applications in the world. As Twitter works towards improving its monetization problems, more users will become aware of Twitter and brands will be encouraged to market their products on the platform, which is a great thing for both the users and the application.

Twitter's continued work on new features lately shows that it is interested in developing and expanding the platform for users, and providing more opportunities for content monetization. Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, said the company plans to more than double its total annual revenue to over $ 7.5 billion in 2023 with at least 315 million mDAU (monetizable daily active users).
